New for 2024, we are offering winter skills weekends based around the Glencoe area in the West Highlands. These courses are perfect for novice winter walkers with a good base of summer hill experience, who are keen to spread their wings in winter.

£200 Per person.

What’s involved:

Whilst we can’t guarantee perfect conditions, we will aim to cover the following essential winter skills over the course of two days on the hill with additional evening sessions:

Winter navigation skills
  • Winter movement skills

  • Use of crampons and ice axe

  • Avalanche avoidance and weather

  • Winter navigation

  • Route planning

  • Conditions allowing, a mountain summit or two!

What’s included:

  • Winter Mountain Leader to lead and instruct you throughout the weekend

  • Friendly maximum ratio of 1:4 clients

  • Ice axe, crampon and helmet hire

  • Maps and compass (feel free to bring your own)

What’s not included:

  • Accommodation*

  • Crampon compatible (ideally B2) boots**

  • Personal hill kit

  • Food

  • Your personal travel insurance

* You are free to arrange your own accommodation in the area, and the course will be based from Heart of Glencoe Holidays, Glencoe. They a offer really lovely range of luxury and budget self catering accommodation. Call to book: 01855 811906
